- Tasmania is the hometown of platypus. Platypus is one of the primitive mammals that have few species, and there is only one kind within platypus’ genus. In the late 18th century, George Shaw first got samples of platypuses, thinking that this creature was the product of boyish mischiefs, and it was not until 1799 when this lovely creature was first given a name. Platypus possess a mouth and feet that loos like a duck, while its body and tail are similar to those of a beaver. This creature first appeared 25 million years ago and still lives in Australia.
